We pray so we can experience the presence of God, and by being in His presence be made complete.
Throughout this series, I will commit to….
Be _______________________ to enter into the presence of God. (Eph. 3:12)
Be filled (made ____________________) by regularly entering His presence. (Eph. 3:19)
Be ____________________ to praying
God answers our prayers the way we would want Him to if we knew what He knows.
Three reasons prayers [apparently] go unanswered:
1. If the prayer request is wrong, God says, "No."
2. If the timing is wrong, God says, "Slow."
3. If we are wrong, God says, "Grow."
We need to grow if...
a) We don't pray. [James 4:2]
b) We are selfish. [James 4:3]
c) We have not confessed our sin or we are unrepentant. [Isaiah 59:2]
d) We have unresolved conflict with somebody else. [1 Peter 3:7]
e) We have inadequate faith. [James 1:5-8]
f) We do not hear the cry of the poor. [Proverbs 21:13]
Question for reflection
Will you trust God to answer your prayer the way you would want Him to if you knew what He knows?
Praying for Jerks
Matthew 6:12; Matthew 5:43-44; Psalm 139:19-24; Luke 23:33-34; 1 Peter 2:23-25
How do we pray for jerks?
Pray, remembering we all carry a jerk debt.
Pray, asking God to keep our motives pure.
Pray, with their restoration in mind.
Pray, trusting in God who is just.
Pray, dripping with grace.
Pray in a way that moves your heart and your hands to respond to them in the way Christ has responded to you.
Questions for reflection
Do you pray for others (even the jerks) the way you would want them to pray for you?
Who do you think would benefit from you praying this way?
Praying BIG Prayers
Praying BIG prayers positions us to experience God's prevailing power.
Three steps to praying BIG prayers:
1. Pray confidently, knowing that God hears your petitions.
2. Trust in God's power and ability to answer your prayers.
3. Persevere in prayer until something happens.
